Commercial of the Week — Nostalgia Edition

Wow, this one is 37 years old, from 1971. And I remember it well.

When I worked at McDonald’s for a few months in 1981, I had one manager who looked back on this ad with great nostalgia and directed us to live up to its example.

Looking at it now, what floors me is the number of recognizable faces in that ad:

    John Amos
Johnny Haymer (Annie Hall and every sitcom 1975 – 1985)
    Robert Ridgely (Boogie Nights)
I first thought the mgr was David Huddleston (THE Big Lebowski in The Big Lebowkski), but Internet consensus is it’s John Wheeler (all sitcoms that Haymer didn’t do, plus others that he did)

Who knows who else I’m missing because of grainy YouTube…

The McDonald’s ad that makes me feel the oldest is a man using a dollar to pay for his burger, fries, and a coke, and getting change back. “Change?!”

And, of course, “You Deserve A Break Today,” was written by Barry Manilow.

  3. Not one woman or teenager, you can tell this is ‘vintage’!

37 years ..thanks…I needed to feel old tonight! And I remember well the “…and get, change back from your dollar” gingle.

I am not old, I am not old, I am not old.
